Landis+Gyr Gridstream AMI Solution Selected for CFE Advanced Metering Project

Landis+Gyr, a global leader in energy management solutions, has been selected to supply advanced metering infrastructure technology to support grid modernization initiatives of Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE), the state-owned electric utility of Mexico.

Landis+Gyr’s Gridstream® AMI solution, including RF mesh network and advanced meters, will be deployed in the states of Campeche and Quintana Roo in CFE’s Peninsular Division. The agreement includes installation of network equipment and nearly 96,000 advanced meters in the region.

The technology upgrades are aimed at reducing non-technical line losses, improving efficiency and enhancing service delivery to high-use consumers in the region.

To address CFE’s smart grid requirements, Landis+Gyr is partnering with SistinDacema TMX, the prime contractor that will manage installation and support of the network, meters, and head-end software.

“This project will provide significant RF network coverage for smart grid projects throughout the region enabling CFE to add additional meters, sensors and devices to meet their business needs now and in the future,” said Abe Ortega, Vice President of International Sales and Marketing at Landis+Gyr. “Working with SistinDacema TMX, Landis+Gyr is able to offer a full-range of technology and data management tools to help the utility reach its goals.”

CFE provides electric service for more than 38 million consumers, including more than 2 million in the Peninsular Division in Eastern Mexico. The utility is also the primary generator in the country and has expanded its renewable resource capacity in recent years.

Landis+Gyr’s Gridstream AMI solution provides a reliable and secure connection to critical points across the distribution system, and interfaces with existing utility systems and applications to more effectively manage billing, operations, engineering and customer service. The network component of the solution enables two-way communications with meters, sensors and switches to provide interval load and voltage data and support net metering, outage management and remote service connection capabilities.
